July 25, 2020 Update: Pool Closing for the Remainder of the Season

Members of Barranca Mesa Pool,

Thank you all for your support and understanding during this very challenging and unique season. The Board and staff have made every attempt to work for you, not only in opening the pool, but also keeping it open as long as possible. We did all we could with government restrictions and limitations, as well as lower than expected funding from assessments and other income (i.e., swim lessons and party reservations), to keep the pool open with limited hours, limited staffing, and use of the scheduling system.

The Board has made a difficult-yet-inevitable decision. The pool has a budget shortfall of approximately $35,000 this season (in addition to the deficit of nearly $10,000 from last season from unexpected and higher than normal expenses). The responsible decision--the one that will allow the pool to open in 2021 as well as continue to plan for future renovations (such as re-plastering the pool)--is to close at the end of the day on 2 August.

We are hopeful next summer will be more normal, and we look forward to planning for 2021. Again, many thanks to our dedicated membership for supporting the pool during these uncertain and unique times.

Very Respectfully,

BMPA Board 2020
