Members,
We appreciate your concerns and your patronage at the pool. Thank you for bringing your concerns to us.
We understand that there are many questions and uncertainty right now surrounding our community and future.
The Board are currently following the guidelines from the NM Department of Health, the CDC, and Los Alamos County as we continue to monitor the pandemic situation.
What I can say now is that we are planning to operate as normal for this summer. Our current policies and deadlines remain in place.
Please be aware that we are all stewards of this pool. It is not just the Board responsible for its operation, all members are responsible. This pool was started with private donor money (people like you), and continues to operate as a private club. You are part of this. For those concerned about the membership dues: the pool has certain fixed operating costs that cannot be changed such as paying our lease to the school board (over $6,000), Water, gas, electricity, chemicals, etc. We operate as a non-profit and thus have minimal resources (your membership) from which to pay the bills. Also to clarify a common misconception, the board members are fully volunteer positions. Nobody on the board receives any compensation whatsoever. No reduced assessments, no free memberships, nothing. We do this because we are all invested in keeping the pool in operation for our community and for the future.
As the pandemic situation evolves, we are monitoring closely and will provide information via our updated website www.barrancapool.com and email as necessary to our membership.
We have placed a statement on the website to address this concern and will update it as necessary. We have 2 months before the pool opens for us to evaluate the situation and make decisions for the summer. If we have to reduce the operation of the pool through mandates outside of our control, there will be less staff costs, which is our major monetary operating variable, and we can decide how to balance the membership assessments at that time.
If you no longer want your membership, please find a suitable family to transfer it to, or contact our membership coordinator to discuss options. There is a waiting list for new families wanting to be a part of this great resource.
The Board remains committed to this pool and our community. Our members are why this pool exists, and we will all will continue to support this valuable endeavor. Stay Safe!
Respectfully,
Jeremy Best
